With fleece was white as snow;
And everywhere that Mary went,
The lamb was sure to go

It followed her to school one day,
Which was against the rule.
It made the children laugh and play,
To see a lamb at school.

And so the teacher turned it out,
But still he lingered near
And waited patiently about,
Til Mary did appear

«What makes the lamb love Mary so?»

The eager children cry.

«Why, Mary love the lamb, you know!»

The teacher did reply.

У Мэри был дружок-барашек,
Пушистый, белый был, как снег,
Везде и всюду тот барашек
Готов был следовать за ней;
Однажды в школу увязаться
За ней не побоялся, но
Другие дети ну смеяться:
Барашек в школе – как смешно!

Учитель вывел недотепу,
Но тот за дверью взад-вперед,
Туда-сюда все терпеливо топал,
Все ждал – когда она придет.

«За что барашек любит Мэри?» —
Все малыши хотят узнать;
«За то, что Мэри его любит, —
Учитель отвечает.
